Not every chapter needs to be a long read. Some readers are here for the choice loop more than the prose, and until now the app decided the pace for them.Chapter length is a story setting now. Pick it when you create a story, or change it later from the story page.
Four lengths, one setting. Choose 500, 1000, 2000 or 3000 words per chapter, in the creation wizard or later on the story page. It takes effect from your next chapter.
Chapters are shorter by default. The target is now 2,000 words, down from 2,500. This applies to stories that already exist, from their next chapter onward. An ongoing story starts producing shorter chapters on its own.
Change it whenever you like. Chapter length is never locked, unlike the story language. Run a tense stretch at 500 words for fast back-and-forth, then switch back for the payoff.
Every length costs one credit. The price does not change with the setting, so a short chapter buys less text for the same credit. What you get back is a faster turnaround and a decision to make sooner.
500 and 1000 land on any model. Ask for 500 words and you get roughly 500.
The numbers are targets, not promises. How close a chapter lands varies with the model and the story. On the economical default, gemini-3.1-flash-lite, every step up does deliver a longer chapter. The stronger gemini-3.5-flash runs longer still.
A note on the 0.8.0 floor. Those notes promised every chapter at least 2,500 words, one number for every story. The setting replaces that promise with a choice: pick the length you want per story, and the app aims for it.
