A book that turns like one

November 2026
Reading mode got a day of polish from your first tries with Book.
  • All choices on one spread. In Book the choices of a chapter always show together. When they do not fit below the text, "What happens next?" stays under the last lines and the choices sit on the facing page. On a small phone with five choices and large text, the choices start on a fresh spread.
  • Pages that turn like paper. The turning page carries exactly what the page shows. No button outlines, no white flash at the spine and no picture that stretches during a drag or changes shape after the turn.
  • Whole pictures. A chapter's picture shows complete above the chapter title too, and black bars at the top and bottom of a picture are trimmed away.
  • Shorter swipes. On a phone a short, quick swipe now turns the page.
  • Opening and closing the book. The left page fades in once the cover has turned. A picture cover carries the story's title on a plate near its bottom edge. Close to the cover hides the picture at once.
  • Links into the book. Add ?reading=1 to a chapter link to open it straight in reading mode. Copy link in Reading settings adds the page you are on, so whoever opens it lands there.
  • Music that answers. The music question now comes first when the book opens, and Yes turns sound on. The sound button opens a menu in the book's own style: Mute, the track for this story (its own, your playlists or any song) and Set up playlists. Next track shows only for a playlist. Closing the book puts sound back the way it was before you opened it.
  • Starter playlists. A new browser starts with two playlists, Calm reading and Adventure. The top-right sound panel uses the same track list and follows light and dark mode.
  • Fairer picture prices. The 1.5x price for using a story's reference picture is only quoted when that picture is really used, and a line says so above the button.
  • Square pictures by default. Chapter pictures start square. Picture styles show as boxed tiles you can zoom before picking. Guests no longer see a picture style row.
  • Slate mood. A fourth mood with blue paper and rain on a window. Simple settings now stack their rows on a phone.
  • Tidier choices. The count of chapters that follow sits small in the corner of a written choice, and choices side by side have the same height.
  • Tidier settings. Buttons centre their text, the chosen option shows a check, and an info icon explains Screen and Picture style. The picture style note above Create a picture is one quiet line with a pencil. Picture shown is hidden in Book, which always shows the chapter's own picture. In Modern the gap above the text is gone.
  • Desktop view on a landscape phone. The book's buttons and the settings are smaller there and never cover the text, and the margin buttons spread evenly around their corner.
